Hello and welcome to the sale of this magnificent French mirror. Dating from the middle to the later half of the 19th century this superb mirror has a superb decorative look. The frame is made of wood and gesso and decorated with flowers, ribbons and acanthus leaves with a gilt finish. The mirror plate is original and has a nice amount of light foxing.
The backboards have been replaced with a later board that has a retailers mark for V. COT of Limoges (Picture and mirror framer).
Due to its tall, narrow size the mirror would suit freestanding against a wall as a dressing mirror, or on a wall as a hallway mirror. It would originally have been an over mantle mirror but you'll need a high ceiling to accommodate it. By the way, I hate photographing mirrors, it's almost impossible to get a good picture of them, I guarantee it looks better in the flesh. In good condition commensurate with its age and use. Please have a good look at the photographs as they form part of the description and contact me if you have any further questions.
The mirror measures (in cm) 139 tall, 80 wide and 8 deep. You are more than welcome to collect or I can deliver locally if needed. I have many unique antique and vintage items, please take a look. As unique items are hard to price all of our listings carry a make a best offer option, feel free to use it, however please be realistic.
