It was bought from a Brocante / French Antique Shop in the south west of France. It clearly has some significant age, however having never seen anything like it before we wondered if it had been created as a bespoke piece. The pedestal is very reminiscent of the turned columns that are used as part of the presses in vineyards. Given that the table surround and drawer front have a lot of carving with shields and other symbols, we wondered if this may have represented the family or chateau for a particular vineyard.
The table top fits on to the pedestal by means of a large central dowel. Given it is only supported in the middle of the table, it is important for it to be affixed to the wall.It has two brackets underneath the table surface to do this. It has a singular drawer that runs the full width of the table.
The left hand lower corner of the drawer has a small chunk missing from the face (see photo 12). This is only noticeable when the drawer is open. We have taken photographs both indoors and outdoors to try and provide the best overall representation of the condition. It is an old piece of furniture, and as such has marks that would be expected of an antique piece. Height - 83cm / 32.5 inches.
Width - 93.5cm / 37 inches. Depth - 48.5cm / 19 inches. Due to the size, weight and fragility of this item, it would be preferable for the item to be collected from the Guildford area.
