Lovely antique (probably Edwardian era) wardrobe / armoire -a beautifully decorative and unusual semi circular demi lune shape creating a wonderful and striking bow fronted /oval frontage (flat backed) in an Art Nouveau? Originating from France- I was told this was French when I bought it- a fantastic piece of craftsmanship. Breaks down into 2/3 pieces-very heavy very solid.
Lovely beading follows the curves of the wood plus wooden carved rosettes , decorative door pulls (non-matching-one must have been replaced in the distant past) plus key; closes with clicking mechanism to the right door over a screw, then close the left-both doors then sit and remain closed -probably a later addition. There are original brass coat hooks all along the back and on the rail but we also use coat hangars inside too-lots of space inside for coats -plus shelf and bottom section for shoes/ umbrellas etc. 51 inches wide at the back 22 inches deep from front to back at deepest point and 78 inches high. There is a scratch on one door that has been covered up, so is not really noticeable, plus there is some fading and tiny bits of beading lost but nothing noticeable -items of this antiquity do show wear etc but it is a handsome and very unusual piece - I have never seen anything else like it and many people have commented on how lovely it is as a stand alone piece in our entrance hall. I have looked but there is nothing remotely like it on the internet-bow fronted cabinets, tables and chests of drawers but nothing like this.... We are having our entrance porch re-modelled hence sale. I have excellent feedback and lots more photos.
